Since we have made web host reviewing our business, almost 5 years ago now, we have developed some easy ways to spot great hosts, good hosts, not so good hosts, and down right awful hosts. Below is a more in depth description of the criteria we use when listing and ranking a web hosting service.
Ranking New Hosts
When we discover new hosts, other users recommend them to us, or webmasters submit their web hosting service to our directory we first check out the services offered, look of their site, prices, etc. If they seem reputable we will list them on our site. These sites are listed anywhere from about 30 or so on in the Top 100 listing.
Moving up in the Ranking
A site is moved up in the Top 100 if we've had a chance to look over their services more thoroughly, or we receive consistant positive user feedback, and feel our viewers would benefit from what the web host has to offer.
Making the Top 10
The sites that receive a top ranking like those in the Top 10 on our home page must pass through more intrusive criteria.
1) We host our own web sites with the web host to test their services
2) We search out and investigate user feedback from other actual users
3) We test the services hosts advertise to be sure they are usable and claims are verified.
4) We research the companies to ensure our Top Hosts will stick around.
By the time a host has been through these tests, we have a good idea who is worth recommending and who is not. Unfortunately the testing we do on the Top Hosts takes considerable time so we are unable to provide that kind of information and assurance on all of our hosts, but we will continue to provide the best recommendations possible as we are able to review new hosts.
Disclaimer: While we strive to provide correct information, you should be aware that with a constantly changing internet, sometimes we fall short. All the information found in this directory is provided for educational and recreational use only. You should examine every host yourself to determine if it is right for your needs. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of information contained herein or make any promises regarding the success of your experiences with these web site hosting services.

Applet
A small Java program that can be embedded in an HTML page. Applets differ from full-fledged Java applications in that they are not allowed to access certain resources on the local computer, such as files and serial devices (modems, printers, etc.), and are prohibited from communicating with most other computers across a network. The common rule is that an applet can only make an Internet connection to the computer from which the applet was sent.
